KARAMBOLA

A Day with the Winners
By ROLANDO S. LUZONG
We were burning tires on the South Luzon Esxpressway as early as five in the morning en route to Boy Lechon’s farm in Malvar, Batangas. The idea was to get there before sunrise to get enough photos of roosters doing their “wake-up calls.” farm owner, our host Mr. Benigno “Boy Lechon” de Roca was there early. Hot coffee and freshly cooked suman were promptly served.

As the cameras and lighting were being set up, the members of the Thunderbird Winning Team arrived one by one. There were Boy Marzo, Dicky Lim, Dr. Boy Tuazon, Honey Yu, and RED Game Farm’s successful partners Edwin Arañez and Raffy Campos.
There was some drizzle and we decided to have a break for a while since it was already lunch time any way. During lunch, we knew we were right in doing the shoot on Boy Lechon’s farm. It was like fiesta with all the food that you can savor only at any of Lydia’s Lechon & Restaurant branches all over Metro Manila. Aling Lydia is Mang Boy’s better half. Not to mention the crispy and delicious one whole lechon that was cooked on the farm just for us. If there was one on a diet that day, it was hard to pinpoint who.

TRUE WINNER : Benigno "Boy Lechon" de Roca with the numerous proofs of his mastery of cockfighting.
The rain poured hard, while we were eating and it added to the ambiance that made the food taste much, much better. Even when it was time to leave, Boy Lechon did not allow us to go without having a second merienda and something to eat along the way.
It was a very fulfilling day not only for our stomachs, but for our objective of coming with a good audio-video presentation (AVP) for Thunderbird Power Vet’s new product which is Thunderbird Ganador Max – for maximum fighting ability.
A week later, we were at Sonny Lagon’s Blue Blade Game Farm where the AVP for Thunderbird Strongard – bulate’y talo, manok panalo, was shot.
